A clinical study was made on 183 patients with
ventricular premature beats, treated at the Chonnam University, Hospital for the period of 4 years from 1973, through 1976.
The results obtained were as follows
1) 183 could be selected out of 10, 16, patients, showing 1. 8% of incidence. The incide i of ventricular premature beat of the cardiovular group was 2.8% and of the non-cardiovascul r group it was 1.3%. Among the cardiovascular up, hypertensive heart disease was noted most frequently (18. 6%) and mitral stenosis was the next (1.3%).
2) The ratio of male to female was 2.18 to 1. 38. The most frequent age group was 8th evade, and the incidence rose suddenly after the 7th decade.
3) Most of patients were clarified as b. wing Grade 1 and 2, and there were no difference i the cardiovascular and the non-cardiovascular gro p in Grade 1 and 2. But the patients in Grade 3 and 4 belonged mainly to the cardiovascular group.
4) 167 palients (91 %) were classified as having fixed coupling interval and 16 patients (9%) as having variable coupling interval 9 patients (5%) had interpolated beats: 27 patients had end-diastolic ventricular premature beats and retrograde: P-wave, 8 patients (4%) had fusion beats, and 2 patients (1%) !reciprocal, beats.
5) 99 patients (54%) were classified as having ;ventricular premature beats originated in the right ventricle: 85 patients (46%) in the left ventricle 7 patients (4%) had septal ventricular premature beat.
6) There were no symptoms in 57% of patients. Palpitation was noted in 31% of patients.
7) Ventricular premature beats were associated with atrial fibrillation in 19% and bundle branch block in 4% and atrial premature beats in 4.%.
